Creative Connections was devised by Cerin Richardson, Principal Officer for Arts and Learning at Edinburgh City Council in association with Amanda Gizzi, Lecturer in Art & Design at Edinburgh University Moray House School of Education. Alongside Theatre Practitioner Tim Licata and Visual Artist Alice Betts we devised a program of workshops for 4th Year BEd Primary students and PGDE Secondary students. The project focused on the possibilities for engaging with artists to increase creativity in lesson planning and using expressive art forms across the curriculum. Workshop sessions explored how this approach could impact on the delivery of the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence. Course electives at Moray House lead to live workshops sessions with individual students whilst on placement. PGDE Primary students were also involved through a one off Integrated Arts Day, working with individual artists to explore creative approaches to cross curricular learning. The project was co funded by Edinburgh City Council and The Scottish Arts Council. The project will continue into the Autumn term 10/11 with each artist working alongside a probationary year teacher on a live project.
