Collection | Kirkcaldy Patterns

Collection | Kirkcaldy Patterns, commissioned by NHS Lothian Charity Tonic Arts for the friends and family room in the newly refurbished Edinburgh Haematology Center at The Western General Hospital. Taking inspiration from the Firth of Forth's historic craft industries; the former potteries, tileworks and linoleum factories that dotted the estuary, centred around Kirkcaldy.

Drawing from archival research, the work gathers together a collection of decorative motifs, translated into small scale sculptural forms that move beyond their original source to take on a life of their own. Presented as a cabinet of curiosities in a case designed and made by Jonathan Pang Furniture, the work adds intrigue and delight into a calm and welcoming space, offering respite and care to hospital visitors.
