Braid Road Table

A private commission for an eight seater encaustic tiled dining table to celebrate a marriage and create a focal point at the heart of a lovingly renovated Victorian house. Created in collaboration with Angus Ross Furniture and Craven Dunnill Jackfield.

Inspiration for the striking table top design evolved through discussions with the clients, refrences include the Victorian encaustic floor tiles in the hallway, the couple’s interest in mathematics, and their collection of African woven textile. The patterns and colours pull together these references to create a striking centre point that reflects the meeting of historic and modern design in the couples home.

“ Using my encaustic tiles as a table surface is such a beautiful use of the material, combining an
artwork with a highly functional object that sits at the heart of the home. The encaustic tiles are
highly durable, pleasingly tactile, and the pattern design reflects both the clients and the
architectural history of the building. I was delighted by Angus’ response to the collaboration, us-
ing steam bent ash to echo the elliptical lines of the pattern design, the combination is very dy-
namic”
